Bio
Moa van Kretschmar is a PhD candidate specialising in soil organic carbon dynamics and modelling across diverse Australian landscapes. She holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Advanced Studies from the University of Sydney, majoring in Environmental Science and Animal Production, where her honours research examined stabilisation pathways of soil organic carbon in contrasting mineral soils. Her work focuses on understanding the processes driving soil carbon change and identifying strategies to enhance carbon stocks across both natural and managed systems, without compromising agricultural productivity. She integrates process-based models with remote sensing products and large-scale datasets to analyse carbon dynamics across spatial and temporal scales.

Scalable whole-profile soil organic carbon modelling for diverse Australian landscapes
This thesis develops scalable approaches for modelling soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics across diverse Australian landscapes using process-based models of varying complexity. It explores how these models can simulate whole-profile SOC changes over space and time, from local to large scales, to improve understanding of carbon dynamics in heterogeneous environments.
